The Students as Teachers continue...

And the Cardinals continue to inform us. Here’s what we have learned this week from their Bird Research project:

Harpy Eagle
by LillyDavatzes

1. “The largest and most powerful raptor”
2.  “The female Harpy Eagle can carry and fly with prey that weighs as much as the Eagle does.”
3.  “The Harpy Eagle was the inspiration behind the design of Fawkes the Phoenix in Harry Potter.”
4. It lives “In countries that speak Spanish (and one where they speak Portuguese- Brazil) in Central and South America.”
5. It eats “sloths, monkeys, and snakes.”

Lilly choose this bird to research “because I liked the name of it and I think it looks pretty.”

The Ostrich
by Stella Bickford

1. “In six months, a chick can be taller than a man.”
2. “Ostriches make woo-woo sound to warn predators”
3. “They have 2 toes”
4. It lives in the “open plains in Africa”
5. It eats “grass, small plants, insects, lizards, and  turtles”

Stella decided to create her bird nest in our Outdoor Classroom. She wanted her friends to help her, "a communal project."
