VIP Letter

Dear Cardinal Families,

Young children love to share their treasures and the Cardinals are very eager to do just that. Show and Tell is not just about giving them the opportunity to bring their special item(s) from home but a chance for children to hone their communication skills. Each Cardinal’s social, emotional and language skills will grow and develop from this activity as they increase their confidence, learn to use descriptive language, practice listening skills, and learn how to ask inquiry based questions. Sharing the things that are important in your child’s life with their friends at school connects their worlds of ‘home and school’ in such a meaningful way. Learning more about each other helps us to become a closer ‘family’ and community as well as makes for a fun and comfortable learning environment for everyone involved.

We value the individuality of each child in our Cardinal class and have created an activity in which each child can celebrate his/her uniqueness. But, instead of calling it the Show-n-Tell week, we have named it the VIP Week as we feel every child should feel like a “Very Important Person”!

On the Friday before your child’s special week, your child will take home our class VIP box. Over the weekend, your child will fill the box with some favorite items from home: a favorite book, a piece of his/her artwork, travel mementos, etc. Please no toys. For the safe management of special treasures, we ask that the items be limited to five and that all of the items fit in the box with the lid secure. The VIP Box should be returned to school on the Monday of your child’s week. Throughout the week, your child will have the opportunity to share his/her items with the class.

We would also like our VIP to share a snack with the class during his/her special week! On the Friday of your child’s VIP week, your family may send in a simple, nutritious shared snack for the class. Please be mindful of our children with allergies – no products with nuts and/or peanuts. For the safety of all of our children, all snacks must come in with a list of ingredients. Thank you for your help.

A list of full school weeks has been compiled. Please stop by and sign-in your child’s name for the week of preference. This VIP list will be placed by the morning sign-in sheet.
