Assembly

Joining our friends in Lower School for Assembly is always a welcomed way to begin our day! The children gathered for a brief Morning Meeting to review our daily schedule and were excited to learn that we would be going to the Meuller auditorium to join with all Lower School students to participate in our Lower School assembly program. What a fun filled and significantly educational way to end our week!  Assembly began with Jason leading the entire audience of Lower School in a fun  and familiar interactive song that had everyone, singing and dancing along! Children and teachers together enjoyed the experience of moving, clapping and singing a favorite song that is often sung in music class titled , "Say Hello ... And How Are You"

Afterward, the second graders gave a presentation on their most recent trip to Rushton Woods Preserve on the land in Willstown area. They had the opportunity to visit the Bird Banding and Monitoring Station and had the most memorable and educational hands-on experience. As the children spoke their observations, a large screen showed photographs of their event. The Cardinals got so excited when they noticed the Cardinal mentioned! What a remarkable experience and great connection to our own theme of study.

When the 2nd graders finished their presentation,  Raji played his guitar, and led the Kindergarteners along with the first and second graders in singing one of Bob Marley’s popular songs Don’t Worry Bout a Thing ...

A tradition in our assembly experience is playing a state naming game that is played not just by Lower School, but sometimes by families and Middle School students as well. As described by Andrea, one of our fourth grade teachers, “STATE MY NAME!, is a game that requires people to figure out the mystery state through a series of clues presented at assembly and on the wall near the library throughout the course of two weeks. Fourth grade selects the state and does the research to determine what they feel are the best possible clues. Students, families and friends are invited to guess the name of the state and write a fact about that state near the awesomely decorated map of the United State that is just outside the library near first and second grade.” So, go ahead, brush up on your geography. Or, along with your child, research the clues. You might just spark the interest of a future Cartographer or Historian!

Assemblies are so much fun! They help motivate, encourage, and challenge every student, not only to get involved but to get a clear sense of the loving, educational community in which we belong.  Please join us for assembly whenever your schedule permits.  We will communicate the assembly schedule for the next few months and would love to have you join us and share in our community.  Thank you, Assembly Committee for making this experience possible for us all!
