A self-portrait is a
great way for the young child to explore the concept of self. This activity can
help the children to learn about what people look like, how different people
are alike and different, and build additional skills such as shape and color
recognition.
Throughout the year the Cardinals
will be asked to draw a picture of themselves. Often the use of a small mirror
will help them become more aware of facial details. Through this activity the Cardinals
develop self awareness as well as awareness of others. As the year progresses
it is exciting to see how their fine motor skills develop and their perspective
changes.
