Today was our very first day in Music class and the experience
could not have been more delightful! We walked to the music room and we were met
by our new music teacher, Aedín. What a talented music teacher! After greeting
us, Aedín introduced us to her special friend, “Ladybug.” She told us that
Ladybug was going “to help us sing.” Ask us how!
The children gathered on the floor in a circle in our beautiful music room and the experience was almost magical! The interest and connection to both Aedin as well as the special music space was quite exciting to observe! Aedín showed us a cool looking musical tool
called “a tuning fork.” When she hit it gently on the floor, it produced a
musical tone. She gave each of us the opportunity to listen closely to the
sound it emitted. Neat!
Naturally,
we respond to music by moving and being active. It helps us learn about rhythm
and develop motor coordination. Aedín handed out
egg shakers and had us on our feet shaking and moving and the children felt right at home even on the first day of music class! Then, she handed out
scarves and soon we were singing and marching to the beat of the music playing
from the cd player. To end our session, Aedín poured “fairy dust” on a “star”
which we passed around. Once in our hands, we got the chance to “wish upon a
star.” What a powerful first experience in the music room. Here are a few pictures to give you a glimpse
of our experience...
