Art Class With Amanda

The Cardinal class went to the art room for our first art class with Amanda today. The children joined together on the art room rug for a brief meeting.

Amanda lead a discussion with the children about drawing asked the children ," What do you like to draw?"  The children responded:

Noel -dinosaurs
Katey- flowers
Radha-rainbows
Violet-ponies
Trace-football
Stella-unicorns
Tori-letters
Audrey-flowers
Young-monsters
Samuel-rocket ships
Andrew-ear
Kaya-butterfly
Lilly-butterflies and flowers
Wyatt-the sun and the trees
Kate-eagles and Cardinals
Jayden-draw sports stuff
Evan-zombies

Amanda then introduced the concept of 'self -portrait'.  She said, " We are going to draw ourselves today, all the way from the top of our heads to the bottom of our toes." The children used cray-pas to draw their self portraits and worked in small groups at the art room tables.

A few of the comments overheard as the children returned to our classroom that captured the spirit of the children's experience were:

Radha: " I really liked art class because we made self portraits and I liked making myself!"
Violet:  " I liked that I put alot of pink in my self-portrait!"
Jayden: "Art class is fun and I like drawing. I liked how my art teacher showed us how to make ourselves."
Evan: "I loved the self portraits!"
Kate:  "I liked when we  got to draw ourselves"
Trace: "I had fun"

Going into the art room, meeting a new teacher and exploring new materials was a wonderful first art class!
