The Students as Teachers remain...

...and they go on informing us.

The Cardinal

1) "The Males have a red crest. That's how the Cardinals got their name."
2) "Plant sunflowers to attract Cardinals in your garden."
3) "Cardinals are song birds."
4) They live "in warm temperature in North America and has even expanded their territory to Canada."
5) They eat "seeds with their strong beaks. They like corn, nuts, and grapes."

Why did Jayden study this bird? "I wanted to study the Cardinals because I didn't know much about birds and so I started with Cardinals. My next bird might be the Eagles."









The Cardinal

1) They are known for their vivid red color.
2) It is illegal to own a Cardinal as a pet or to hurt one. They are a government protected wild bird species.
3) Cardinals can live for 15 years!
4) They are seed eaters with a strong beak.
5) It lives in, "This part of U.S. Winter farther south, Summer farther north, all the way to North U.S. through Central America to South. They live in nests in trees & bushes."
6) It eats "seeds, small fruits like berries, some insects. Sunflower seeds, peanuts, holly berries. (Has a strong beak for eating seeds.)

The Cardinal was Wyatt’s choice of bird to study because, "I like how the Cardinal makes a tweety sound. I like their songs."






The Purple Finch

1) Nests can be 2.5 feet up to 60 feet off the ground and often built under an overhanging branch for shelter.”
2) The Purple Finch uses its big beak and tongue to crush seeds and extract the nut. They do a similar trick to get at nectar without eating an entire flower and also to get to a seed buried inside a fleshly fruit.
3) The oldest recorded Purple Finch lived to be 11 years 9 months old
4) It lives in the "forest"
5) It eats "sunflower seeds.”

When asked why she chose this bird Audrey's response was, “I studied it because I like the colors of brown and red.”
